Four steps to payout

Between your first call and the claim settlement (Regulierung) there are four steps. We handle three of them for you.

  1. 1 First contactIn the same phone call or WhatsApp chat, it is usually already clear when we can inspect your vehicle in Lauf.
  2. 2 On-site appointmentThe inspection on site takes 30 to 45 minutes for ordinary damage. This applies to a parked vehicle in the old town at the Pegnitz riverbank, and also to one at either of the two A9 interchanges.
  3. 3 Completion and deliveryThe report is usually ready one day after the inspection. It goes directly to the recipients you name.
  4. 4 PayoutAfter that, you decide: you can have the car repaired, or choose a fictitious settlement (fiktive Abrechnung): you have the calculated amount paid out and do not repair the car.
Accident that was not your fault: the other party's insurer pays directly Before the repair starts, you pay nothing yourself. We bill the other party's insurer directly, and you do not receive an invoice from us. In some cases, we agree on the price with you in advance. This applies to a claim under your own vehicle insurance (Kaskoschaden), which is damage covered by your own comprehensive coverage (Teilkasko) or collision and comprehensive coverage (Vollkasko). It also applies to damage you caused yourself and to valuation reports (Wertgutachten). In these cases, we invoice you directly.

Scope of the inspection

Six steps set the scope of the check

Before any repair decision, we only determine the damage. The repair shop does the repair. This separation keeps our judgment independent of any interest in a repair job. Six steps set how far the check goes.

  • Cause and plausibilityAt first glance, we check whether the impact height, contact marks and direction of deformation match the accident as you describe it. We note contradictions instead of ignoring them.
  • Separating prior damage from old damageBefore any valuation, we clearly separate prior damage (Vorschaden), which was already repaired, from old damage (Altschaden), which was never repaired. We also separate both from the current event. If the damage is not separated, the insurer can later use this as a reason for a reduction (Kürzung). The article on the HIS entry (HIS-Eintrag)explains whether such a case appears in the insurers' information system. This is a database in which insurers record damage cases.
  • Structural parts and axlesSometimes damage that looks small on the outside reaches the longitudinal member. These are the load-bearing beams of the vehicle floor. Sometimes it even reaches the axle mount, where the wheel suspension is bolted on. We can see signs of this at the inspection. After that, a specialist repair shop measures the part exactly, and its result goes into the report.
  • Paint thickness measurementIn the paint thickness measurement, differences from the standard value show that work was already done at this spot earlier. This clearly separates the fresh damage from an older repair.
  • Driver assistance systems and calibrationIn a collision, radar, camera and sensors are usually right at the affected spot. We include the calibration effort that will really be needed in the calculation, even if no photo shows it.
  • Calculation based on manufacturer specificationsFor every work step, the manufacturer system sets the labor time units (Arbeitswerte), which is the time given for each step, as well as paint levels and parts prices. It is not a guess. A calculation that can be followed step by step leaves no basis for a flat reduction.

Larger commercial vehicles from local industry need more time for the inspection. Examples are mobile cranes and vehicles from tool and ceramics production. Such vehicles are rarely built the same way, so it takes longer to tell structural damage from body damage. Describe your case to us by phone, and we will tell you whether a report is needed.

Overview of services

Four possible ways, depending on the damage

Before the appointment, we clarify by phone which service fits your case.

From our daily work

Small damage patterns, high amounts

Here are three more real cases. Each one comes directly from the report and lists every damage item separately.

Loss-of-use compensation For the time without your own car, loss-of-use compensation or a rental car may be possible. The report records how long the downtime lasts. In the cases shown above, the amount is between €602 and €1,106.

We come to you anywhere in Lauf an der Pegnitz

Lauf lies in the Pegnitz valley. The old town with its historic center and the island in the river is surrounded by water, so the access roads are narrow. To the north and south are the established residential and commercial areas, as well as the interchanges Lauf and Lauf/Hersbruck to the A9.

Typical for Lauf an der Pegnitz

Three damage patterns that are typical for Lauf an der Pegnitz

Three patterns shape the damage we see in Lauf and in the Pegnitz valley. This is our observation from practice, not an official statistic.

  • Wildlife crossing at the forest edgeThe Nuremberg Land district lies at the edge of the Sebalder Reichswald and borders the wooded Hersbrucker Alb. The share of forest in the region is high. According to the ADAC, about 80,000 wildlife accidents happen in Bavaria every year. In a region as heavily forested as the Pegnitz valley, wildlife crossing at the forest edges is a recurring issue, especially at dusk.
  • Tight curves in the Pegnitz valleyAlong the Pegnitz valley route, road, river and railway run close together. Curves and narrow bridges are common. Here we mainly see evasive maneuvers with contact with the guardrail or with oncoming traffic.
  • Commuter traffic jams at the A9 interchangesAt the two A9 interchanges, commuter traffic toward Nuremberg builds up. There we mainly see rear-end collisions in traffic jams and when merging.

These three patterns are wildlife crossing at the forest edge, tight curves in the valley and commuter traffic jams on the highway. In Lauf, forest, river and highway are very close to each other. This is different from the other cities in the metropolitan region. This matters when we record the damage. What looks like a simple wildlife accident at first sight can also have a second, separate part of the damage. For example, the driver may have made an evasive maneuver in a curve.

Quickly assessed

Assessment by WhatsApp, before the first appointment

After parking damage in the old town, you often do not know beforehand whether a report is worthwhile. Instead, send us photos of the damage by WhatsApp. Based on these photos, we assess the case and tell you what comes next. This does not obligate you to anything.

This assessment shows you in advance whether a formal inspection is worth the effort, even though it does not replace a report.

When the repair estimate is enough and when you need the report

For small, clear damage, a repair estimate is usually enough. Courts do not agree on where exactly the limit between the two lies. It is often somewhere between €750 and €1,000. More important than the exact amount is whether the damage can be clearly and easily assessed.

Repair estimate

For simple cases
  • Parts pricesList of the parts needed, with costs
  • Labor time units and labor costsHourly rates that the repair shop charges
  • Repair costsRough estimate of the total repair amount

Vehicle report

For noticeable damage
  • Photo documentation with photos, measurements and calculationMonths later, the condition can still be checked from the pictures
  • Market-based Diminished valueThe loss in value that remains even after the repair is finished
  • Replacement value and residual valueIf both values are missing in a Total loss , the most important figures are missing
  • DowntimeDecisive for loss-of-use compensation or a rental car
  • Separating earlier damageSeparates the current damage from everything that came before it
The flat-rate expense allowance counts too For phone calls, trips and waiting time, we usually add a flat-rate expense allowance (Unkostenpauschale) of €25 to €30 on top of the itemized values. This item is part of a full vehicle report. It does not appear in a repair estimate.

Questions in advance

What people often ask before they call

Costs

Who pays for a damage report in Lauf?

If the other party is at fault for the accident, their liability insurance usually pays the full costs. After a wildlife accident, your own comprehensive coverage usually pays. For very small damage, a report is often not worth the cost. We discuss this by phone in advance.

Is there a cost for the initial assessment by phone?

It is free of charge and does not obligate you to anything, even if we advise you against a report in the end.

How long until the insurer's money arrives?

The other party's liability insurance usually needs four to six weeks for the check and the payout. If a wildlife accident goes through comprehensive coverage, it is usually faster, because fault does not need to be clarified. If the claim settlement still takes longer, this is a matter for your lawyer.

Process

Do you come to the old town of Lauf as well as to the Pegnitz valley?

Yes, we come to wherever your vehicle is. This includes the old town at the river, the commercial areas and the A9 interchanges.

How soon can I get an inspection appointment in Lauf?

The appointment is often on the same working day, at the latest on the next one. On site, the inspection takes between 30 and 45 minutes for ordinary damage. The finished report is usually ready one day later.

What should I do right after a wildlife accident in the Pegnitz valley?

Important: First secure the accident scene. Before you drive on, inform the police and take photos of the damage. After that, report the incident to your comprehensive coverage insurer. The damage is easiest to inspect while fur and contact marks are still visible.

Is a repair allowed before the report?

Important: Have the vehicle repaired only after the inspection, even if a repair shop wants to start the next morning after a wildlife accident. Without the inspection, you cannot show later how big the damage was, or whether a second part of the damage came from an evasive maneuver. Call us before the repair starts. An appointment in the Pegnitz valley is usually available at short notice.

Which documents do you need from me for the inspection?

To start, your vehicle registration certificate (Fahrzeugschein) and your contact details are enough. If it was a wildlife accident, please have photos of fur and contact marks ready if possible. Take photos of the marks while you can still see them. If you have a case number from the insurer or the police, please bring it as well.

Your rights

Does the vehicle registration office on Waldluststraße matter for my report?

Not directly. The report goes only to the insurer and the repair shop, and to no one else. You go to the vehicle registration office only when, after a total loss, a vehicle must be deregistered or a replacement vehicle must be registered. This applies whether it was a wildlife accident or other damage.

May I choose the expert myself?

For an accident that was not your fault, yes. The repair shop and the other party's insurer may make suggestions, but these are not binding. For a claim under your own vehicle insurance, also after a wildlife accident, your own insurer places the order.

Report

Do you also inspect larger commercial vehicles from local industry?

Yes, we also inspect vans, trailers and larger commercial vehicles. We come directly to the company site or wherever they are parked.

How many kilometers is Lauf from Nuremberg?

It is about 17 kilometers. You can get there by the A9 or by the S-Bahn (suburban train), which has run between Lauf and Nuremberg since 1987.
